Services Overview
I have been consulting to philanthropists and nonprofit boards and CEOs for over 30 years. In short, I advise philanthropists so they can give better; coach social impact leaders so they can execute better; and bring them together in interesting ways.
I help philanthropists, foundations, and nonprofit CEOs and Boards to navigate new opportunities, complicated challenges and big decisions. These might include launching and managing philanthropic activities; developing and providing advisory services and capacity building to grantees; forging a new strategy; supporting a shift in business plan or organization structure; mapping a big growth plan or turnaround plan; navigating the transition of a founder or long-term CEO; or launching a new collaboration or merger. I also provide coaching services to CEOs and Board members. I enjoy supporting donor circles, funder and nonprofit collaboratives, and collective impact initiatives that provide higher leverage toward outcomes.
I also offer Fractional and Interim CEO services. This can be particularly valuable in these situations:
1. You need support for a nonprofit leadership transition. As an interim CEO I can ensure the important work of the mission continues, while supporting the organization to assess all its options and get clear on its next chapter in a thoughtful, values-driven way. That might include assessing a merger or a new business model, shifting programs to become more relevant or have higher impact, improving readiness to attract and retain the next CEO, advising on internal candidates, exploring alternative leadership structures, or supporting your search process. As an Interim I am less of a “place holder” and more of a change agent, and I maintain objectivity because I am not a candidate for the permanent role.
2. You want to grow your impact in philanthropy. A fractional CEO could be your first official hire, or could be a next step to providing more strategic and impactful philanthropy for an individual, family foundation, or donor collaborative. I can work on a part-time (or potentially full-time) basis to help ramp up philanthropic activities, engage the next generation, or launch a new philanthropic initiative or donor collaborative.
